An Eddie Stobart driver has pleaded guilty to two counts of arson after the haulier launched an investigation with Scania into suspicious truck fires.

Ronald Alexander Day, 53, of Winsford, appeared before Macclesfield magistrates on Friday (23 September) and according to a court spokesman he has now been remanded in custody.

He will be sentenced at Chester Crown Court, although a date has not yet been given.

Day was charged with arson following an incident at Stobart’s yard in Chelford on 15 September, in which a tractor unit was set alight.

Cheshire police also charged him with a similar offence at a yard in South Mimms, Hertfordshire on 13 June.

The two blazes caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The company did not comment to Roadtransport.com regarding the plea but did reveal earlier this week it had conducted an investigation into the recent spate of truck fires associated with Scania tractor units in its fleet and had worked in full co-operation with Cheshire Constabulary to bring a swift resolution.
