Deeside-based Edge Transport is celebrating its 90th anniversary with a special-liveried new Volvo FH 500.

The 6x2 tractor, which was supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials’ Deeside site, veers away from Edge Transport’s traditional white and yellow livery. The truck’s predominately yellow cab with red stripes, which pronounce the company’s “90 years of excellence” and its “ambition, caring and commitment” mantra, combines elements from three designs submitted via a competition run amongst local primary and secondary schools.

The truck has been well spec’d, and features Volvo’s Drive++ equipment package. This adds dual armrests, leather upholstery and electrically controlled air conditioning. It is powered by a 500hp Euro 6(e) engine, matched to the 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission, and combining Volvo’s I-See predictive cruise control system.

“We usually don’t hold back on much of our specifications, but for this Volvo truck, we wanted to raise the bar even further,” said Jonathan Edge, CEO at Edge Transport. “For us, it is paramount that our drivers are well looked after, so we take no compromises in ensuring that they have everything they need to drive comfortably and safely.”

Working up to seven days a week and covering an expected 130,000km per annum, the latest addition to the 38-strong predominantly Volvo fleet is backed by a 5-year Volvo Gold contract. This covers all repairs, wear and tear, and preventive maintenance, as well as real time monitoring of the truck’s critical components.

Edge added: “We first turned to Volvo on a trial basis in 2012 taking on three rigids, and we have never looked back. Today, our fleet is approximately 90% Volvo-supplied, and the backup service we get from Thomas Hardie Commercials is always faultless.”

  • Volvo Trucks will be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open.
