The construction materials group GRS has invested more than £1m in eight new Scania Super 460 P-series tractor units.

The trucks join a fleet of 170 vehicles and will be put to work delivering bagged aggregates, concrete blocks and paving slabs to builders merchants across the country.

GRS managing director for plant and logistics, Matthew Johanson, said: “Taking delivery of these new Scania’s represents another major transport investment for GRS. Today we’re proud to operate one of the most advanced vehicle fleets of its kind in the country. That means we can offer better reliability and service for our customers, with improved efficiency and environmental performance, as well as enhanced road safety. We always take care to choose the right vehicles for the different kinds of work done by different parts of our fleet, and these new Scania Super 460 Ps are well-suited to the job they’ll be doing for GRS.”

GRS group chief executive, Jon Fisher, said: “This is the latest in a series of investments that allows us to expand our business in line with our growth strategy. These trucks are key to increasing our delivery capacity in our building products division, especially to meet the growing demand for our stone and porcelain paving range which is proving popular with builders merchants and landscaping retailers.”

Scania GB account manager, Dan Battershall, said: “It’s been great to work with the GRS team to fulfil this order and we’re sure they will reap the benefits afforded by these vehicles. Through industry-leading emissions controls and a typical 8% fuel saving, the Super sets a new standard for sustainable transport operations. It’s engineered to ensure more uptime, fewer maintenance stops, and up to 30% longer operational life. With a powerful auxiliary braking capacity of up to 350kW the Super also delivers a smoother and safer drive.”

Scania GB general manager, Bruce Candy, said: “We’re delighted that GRS chose the Scania Super tractor units to add to their haulage fleet. We’re confident that these eight trucks will add value for GRS and we’re looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the team as they continue to grow their business.”

Scania will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 4-6 June. Registrations are now open, so book your free place now!
