To establish the suitability of electric vehicles for BJS Haulage, the company is trialling a 19-tonne Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide.

Supplied by Renault Truck Commercials and Vertellus, the commercial vehicle contract hire company, the truck will be based out of BJS Haulage’s West Midlands Hub at Steelpark Way in Wolverhampton.

Amarat Gill, operations director at BJS Haulage, said: "We believe that sustainable, electric-powered transportation is the future of the industry. Our partnership with Vertellus and Renault Truck Commercials for the trial of the Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide is a testament to our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and minimising the environmental impact of our operations. We look forward to the valuable insights this trial will provide as we work towards a cleaner and greener future for logistics."

The E-Tech D Wide is equipped with a 264kWh battery which offers a range up to 140 miles, suitable for BJS Haulage’s local daytime collections. The electric powertrain aligns with the company’s ambition to reduce its environmental impact, something which it encourages its customers and suppliers to do as well.

Rick Edwards, sales director at Renault Truck Commercials, said: “We are delighted to support BJS Haulage’s decarbonisation ambitions with its first fully electric truck on trial through the Vertellus EV Discovery programme. It is great to see one of the nation’s leading logistics providers putting electric vehicles to the test in real world conditions, and we are confident that this initial trial will pave the way to more electric vehicles on the BJS Haulage fleet.”

Throughout the trial, BJS Haulage will monitor the vehicle for performance, efficiency, range and charging infrastructure access. These factors will inform the company’s future plans to establish how suitable electric vehicles would be for its fleet of 3.5-tonne vans up to 44-tonne trucks.
