Euro-5 Mercs for Conway

Kent-based civil engineer FM Conway has taken delivery of six Euro-5 Mercedes eight-leggers comprising four Actros 3236s and a pair of Axor 3240s with HMF grab-loaders. The tippers were all supplied by Sittingbourne dealer Sparshatts of Kent they feature SCR technology.

Plant and asset manager Roy Hedderman says: "We anticipate a service life of at least 10 years for these trucks. Running at Euro-5 might seem like a luxury now, but within the life of this vehicle it will become a necessity."

'No AdBlue' a factor in Scania purchase

Somerset-based transport and distribution firm RT Keedwell has ordered 75 Euro-4 Scanias. As with most truck purchases these days, the choice between SCR and EGR was a factor in the decision. RT Keedwell director Stuart Keedwell says: "As a result of what we've seen so far we certainly don't want to be involved with AdBlue until necessary. "There haven't been any fuel benefits with SCR in our own trials in fact I can't see any benefit [in the] short term," he adds.

T&G merges with Amicus

The Transport and General Workers' Union (T&G) has merged with Amicus to form a 'super union' named Unite - the UK's biggest union with two million members, including 80,000 drivers and another 60,000 transport workers. A T&G spokeswoman says the new name will be phased in on the unions' websites, in literature and in day-to-day business over the next 18 months, during which time the unions will unify offices which perform the same functions.
