Devon-based, family-run haulier Evans Transport increased turnover by £825,000 for the year ending 31 March 2007. The company, which specialises in timber, brick & block and bulk haulage, reported a turnover of £11.4m pre-tax profit increased to £316,000, compared with £228,000 in the previous period.

Director Nigel Evans declined to comment, but a company statement described the financial position as "satisfactory". The Palletforce member was established in 1965 and employs 94 drivers. It has distribution centres in Exeter and Barnstaple.

Tipton Transport, a haulage and warehousing business also owned and run by the Evans family, saw profit fall during the same period. Turnover was £2.6m, compared with £2.7m in 2006 pre-tax profit dropped to £55,000 from £71,000. Following transactions between Evans Transport and Tipton Transport, the smaller business owed Evans £14,000 at the year end.
