The Scania dealer TruckEast-liveried lorry on the Fonix Telematics stand is set up to meet the latest Direct Vision Standard (DVS) October 2024 deadline.

Richard Marshall, direct and partner business sales manager, explains the truck has the moving off information system (MOIS), and blind spot information system (BSIS), which are both part of the Progressive Safe System (PSS).

“A 3-star rating is the minimum from 28 October,” he confirms – but not all operators have taken steps to meet the deadline. “Smaller fleets are moving ahead and getting systems fitted but larger companies are slower in their decision making due to cost.

“Some are choosing to kit out selected trucks in their fleet to go into London. We are based in Essex, and many of our customers are from inside the M25, so they have to fit the latest DVS kits to all their trucks,” he says.

The DVS kit also requires a truck to have an in-cab display, left turn audible alarm, AHD nearside camera and safety sticker.  “We are able to fit the kit to a truck in two hours,” Marshall adds.
