A driver delivering to Palletways' depot in Staffordshire has died after an accident at the distribution firm.
It is understood Kevin Ridgeon, 54, fell backwards from his vehicle in the early hours of the morning on 7 September. He died later in hospital.
A Palletways statement said: “We can confirm that there was an incident at our hub park on Saturday 7 September involving an agency driver, who was working on behalf of our network. The driver was taken to hospital by the emergency services but sadly passed away on Saturday evening.
“First and foremost we wish to convey our deepest sympathies to his family at this difficult time.
“We are working closely with the emergency services and appropriate authorities to carry out an investigation into the cause of the tragic incident, which took place at the exit of our distribution park in Fradley, Staffordshire where our central hub facility is based. No other people or vehicles were involved.”
The statement added: “The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and we are unable to comment any further until the investigations have been completed.”
A spokeswoman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust said it received a call just after 3.30am on 7 September: “We sent an ambulance and a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle to the incident,” she said.
“We treated a male patient with a reduced level of consciousness. He was taken to University Hospital North Staffordshire.”
A Health and Safety Executive spokeswoman said it was aware of the incident and that investigations were continuing.
