A father and son lorry-driving duo have been jailed after pleading guilty to falsifying tachograph records.

At Ipswich Crown Court on 16 October, 57-year-old HGV driver Colin Linder was given a six-month prison sentence and a one-year driving ban for making 20 false tacho records.

His 37-year-old son, Sean Newson, also the CPC holder, was sentenced to four months in jail for knowingly falsifying 16 tacho records.

According to VOSA records, the pair operated out of the Port of Felixstowe under the name Colin P Linder Haulage.

The judge said Newson had a "misguided loyalty towards his father," and warned those who allow their names to be used on tacho records by others will face a custodial sentence.

VOSA chief operating officer Alex Fiddes says: "We are dedicated to improving road safety, and a large proportion of that is ensuring drivers are adhering to the rules. We take falsification of tacho records extremely seriously."

No costs were incurred by either Linder or Newson due to their financial circumstances.
