There was still confusion this week over the future of Ferryways, the Belgium-based shipping line which formerly operated roll-on roll-off (RO-RO) services to Immingham, Tilbury and Ipswich. It has been a turbulent June for the company, which was bought by Belgian operator and competitor Cobelfret at the beginning of the month. Less than two weeks later, Cobelfret switched some Ferryways ships to another company on June 14, Ferryways services were suspended and the company went into administration.
Cobelfret's Antwerp office said this week that Ferryways was in the hands of administrators but refused to comment further. Lloyd's List, the shipping industry newspaper, says that in Belgium, Ferryways is being run by a three-person expert committee while its accounts are being examined. Cobelfret has started running replacement services to Purfleet under the Dart Line brand. A spokesman for the Port of London Authority, which operates Purfleet, says: "It is not clear to me exactly what has happened at Ferryways, but it is true that Dart Line has started running services between Ostend and Purfleet."
Ferryways formerly operated three calls a day to Ipswich, two to Tilbury and one to Immingham.
