Scania launches two new 13-litre biogas engines
The new engines are claimed to be up to 5% more efficient

The new addition to Brocklehurst Transport’s fleet of 28 vehicles is a Renault Trucks T480 High Turbo Compound 6x2 tractor unit.
JDS Truck and Van supplied the vehicle on a five-year repair and maintenance contract for 150,000km per year.
Russell Pickup, fleet and compliance manager at Brocklehurst Transport, said: “For us, fuel efficiency is the key consideration for selecting a new vehicle and we were keen to test Renault Trucks’ Turbo Compound. Although the initial purchase price was above a competitor’s model, following a successful trial we were impressed with the fuel returns and could see the bigger picture for longer-term cost savings.”
Paired with a curtainsider trailer, the vehicle will be put to work on general haulage and supermarket distribution jobs. The smart torque control function improves fuel savings by maximising time spent where the engine is the most efficient. Renault’s optivision map based gear shift which anticipates topography to optimise fuel efficiency.
Brocklehurst Transport opted for the business edition package which includes a painted bumper and roof and side deflectors. Inside, the cab features Roadpad+ infotainment, air conditioning, microwave and memory foam mattress.
Pickup said: “Driver confidence in the new Renault T480 High was crucial and buy-in to the new vehicle has been swift. It has been extremely well received by the driver, who is out three or four nights a week, it ticks all the boxes and he’s happy with the in-cab convenience and comfort.”
The decision was also driven by recommendations from local operators, Pickup added: “We know local hauliers running Renault trucks, people who we trust, and their feedback has been positive.”
For repair and maintenance Pickup said: “JDS in Morley, Leeds, is looking after the vehicle, and we have set up a service plan with them. They are based in a super-convenient location, and I’ve already had good reports from colleagues on their responsiveness and professionalism. We look forward to working in partnership with them going forwards.”
