First of three new Volvo FMs are delivered to ME Saunders & Sons

The first of three new Volvo FM500 Globetrotter 6x2 tractors has been delivered to ME Saunders & Sons.

The Ulverston-based haulier, which runs an 18-strong fleet and recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, has taken the trucks on hire-purchase agreements via Volvo Financial Services.

Rowland Saunders, co-owner of the family-run firm, said: “We’ve had a long tradition of running Volvo trucks and chose them again this time because we have always found the Volvos to be more reliable and robust than the other manufacturers we’ve had in the fleet.

“We did look at some other options, but the Volvo FM came out on top because we know they won’t let us down – you can’t afford to have vehicles off the road in this line of work.”

He praises the FM’s cab interior, in particular its spaciousness and good visibility, adding that the driver is also impressed.

The haulier works out of various quarries in Cumbria, delivering aggregates to customers in the north of England, and the new trucks will be paired with Fruehauf and Wilcox bulk tipper trailers.
