Half of operators (49.6%) believe they will slash the CO2 emissions of their fleets by at least 15% by 2025, according to new research by conducted by Commercial Motor, Motor Transport and Fraikin.
While nearly one-fifth (17.4%) believe they will be able to exceed the 15% voluntary CO2 reduction target set to industry by the government in its Road to Zero strategy.
A further 30% felt it unlikely their fleets would succeed in the challenge, while a further one-fifth remained unsure.
However when it came confidence about the wider industry achieving a 15% reduction, operators remained more sceptical.
Nearly half (48.7%) did not think industry would hit the target, with only one-third remaining optimistic and the rest simply unsure at this stage.
The results formed part of a wider industry survey looking at key fleet management trends and challenges, the 'Fraikin Fleet Management Operator Survey', which is free to download on commercialmotor.com.
It looks at key themes including use of telematics and connected technology, uptake of the DVSA’s Earned Recognition scheme and issues around fleet utilisation and driver recruitment.
