Freeland Freight has taken delivery of four DAF XG 530 6x2 tractors for use on its long-haul work across the UK. The new XG trucks, with ‘FTG’ axle configurations haven’t yet put the new trucks to work, but are already impressing company director, Richard Freeland, and his drivers.
“Aesthetically, the new generation truck range from DAF is beautiful,” said Richard Freeland. “The XG in particular is absolutely stunning. DAF vehicles generally are a comfortable, pleasant place for the drivers to be and I’m sure these will be no exception. Inside they feel much more modern than the previous DAF XF. We went for the XG to give the drivers more space as they’ll be in them on the road and overnight regularly. Our experience with DAF overall has been positive. We received our first batch of new DAF XF in 2011 and, although we still do business with our former majority fleet manufacturer, we found that the aftersales support for DAF was superior.”
Freeland Freight has offered a mix of general haulage services since being formed in 1972 and gets a large proportion of its work from Aberdeen’s oil, gas and petroleum industry. The new trucks join a predominantly DAF fleet and have been liveried in a revised version of Freeland Freight’s yellow and maroon colours.
Maintenance will be carried out in-house with parts supplied by Norscot Truck & Van in Aberdeen, who also supplied the trucks.
“We still work closely with the dealer to enable our own maintenance programme. The staff are always very good and accommodating of our needs. Overall, I’m very happy with DAF as our lead truck supplier,” added Freeland.
- DAF will be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open.
