Freshlinc has taken delivery of 60 new Gray & Adams temperature-controlled trailers with Carrier Transicold fridges.
As part of the company’s plan to reduce its carbon footprint, the new trailers, along with two new DAF XF tractor units with eco-drive systems will help to improve the fleet’s energy efficiency.
Forty of the trailers are multi-temperature Vector HE 19 units and the other 20 are mono-temperature Vector 1550 systems. These are all fitted to 13.6m Gray & Adams trailers and join Freshlinc’s trailer fleet which is predominantly made up of Carrier Transicold units.
Andrew Marchant, fleet director at Freshlinc said: “Achieving Net Zero is a key pillar of Freshlinc’s business plan, and we see Carrier Transicold as a vital partner in helping us reach that goal. These products mark the next step in our sustainability journey and one that we hope will help continue to steer us toward a greener future.”
E-Drive all-electric technology combined with a multi-speed engine design means the Vector HE 19 MT unit reduces fuel usage by up to 30%. Compared with the previous generation Vector 1950 MT trailers, the new version is also 3 dB(A) quieter. Using the same E-Drive system the Vector 1550 delivers good pull-down speeds and accurate set-point control.
This is Freshlinc’s first time running eco-drive power modules which power the refrigeration units via the truck’s engine to help reduce fuel consumption. The eco-drive power module is built into the chassis of the tractor unit and uses a hydraulic pump connected to the power take-off to generate the electricity required to run a cooled trailer. Power delivery is consistent regardless of engine speed so refrigeration capacity is always optimised, even when the vehicle is idling.
Martin Parker, key account manager at Carrier Transicold UK said: “We’re delighted that Freshlinc sees Carrier’s cutting-edge technology as the ideal solution for reducing its fleet’s carbon footprint, and these units will deliver critical fuel and emissions savings.”
The trailers are on a BluEdge full-service maintenance package, this covers annual temperature control testing and certification. Carrier Transicold will complete all regulatory checks and this contract provides access to oneCALL, its 24/7 incident management service.
By 2030 Carrier Transicold has a commitment to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by more than one gigaton.
