The FTA says it wants filling stations to issue fuel receipts detailing the price of the petrol or diesel itself, the fuel duty and the VAT. The organisation believes the government's proposed increase in fuel duty of 2p per litre from April should be scrapped and that users should be absolutely clear about the tax they are already paying.
An FTA spokesman says: "The FTA suggests that oil companies and fuel retailers should consider introducing payment receipts which demonstrate this ultra-high tax take by government.
"They could also include information regarding approximate CO2 output from petrol and diesel for different categories of vehicles, thus providing overall transparency. Two-thirds of the pump price of diesel and petrol is taxation. The government should be content with that and scrap its plans for a further increase of 2p per litre in April".
