The inaugural meeting of the Freight Transport Association's (FTA) Scottish Supply Chain Forum (SSCF) will be held tomorrow, with a keynote speech by the Scottish Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change, Stewart Stephenson.

The SSCF will be a forum for members covering infrastructure investment plans, strategic road and rail freight issues, ferry and shipping service issues, and air freight issues affecting Scotland.

Ahead of tomorrow's forum, Stephenson has been keen to highlight the contribution the freight industry makes to Scotland's economy and has sought to encourage modal shift.

He says: "Where feasible, the government is keen to encourage more freight to move from road to rail and water, and offers support through freight grant schemes, which have removed more than 120 million lorry miles from Scotland's roads over the past 10 years.

"We will continue to work with the industry and welcome the role this new forum can play."
