Aylesford-based Myers Transport has already experienced fuel savings with its new Renault Trucks T High turbo compound achieving 11mpg. With lower fuel costs and a positive impact on the company’s environmental goals, Myers Transport has ordered another turbo compound unit which is due to join the fleet soon. The new truck has been put to work moving continental ferry trailers across the UK.
Managing director, Tony Myers, said: “This is the first turbo compound on our fleet, and we’re seeing an average of 11mpg from it, which is a game changer for our business. We operate 10 other Renault Trucks T520 Highs, which have always been economical to run, but the turbo compound takes it to another level.
“Our customers are very interested in us running as fuel-efficient vehicles as possible, and the turbo compound hits the mark perfectly. Until we’re confident enough to go electric, in our opinion, this is the next best step.”
Supplied by Jamie Sutherland, area sales manager at Renault Truck Commercials, the truck is fitted with a DE13 TC engine. The turbo compound technology is designed to optimise fuel economy with increased torque which helps to improve engine responsiveness. Additional fuel savings are achieved thanks to a smart torque control system which maximises time in the zone with the best engine efficiency. Myers Transport’s T High also has optivision map based gear shifting which uses topographical information to optimise gear shifts. It also has eco cruise control with optiroll to boost fuel economy.
Myers said: “Our drivers love the truck, it’s one of the best on the market and I’m very confident our customers will be very impressed with the standard of the vehicle and its reliability too. The T High suits us for several reasons, not least driver acceptability, reliability, and being frugal on fuel. We’re very happy with the service we receive from Renault Truck Commercials, and we look forward to seeing further results as our fleet continues to evolve.”
Renault Trucks will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo 2025, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 24-26 June. It’s free to attend and registrations are now open.
