Gist has extended its contract with VOW in a £10m deal that sees the haulier take over the transport operations of the office supplies wholesaler in the north of the UK.

The Basingstoke-based operator will now provide transport services for VOW in Scotland, the North-East and the North-West of England from sites in Normanton, Glasgow and Seaham, County Durham, which comprises of 45 vehicles conducting approximately 1,000 deliveries per day.

Under the agreement, 60 VOW staff will join GIST through TUPE transfer.

The contract also sees the extension of Gist's contract to handle distribution in the Midlands, East Anglia and the South-West for a further three years. The distribution in the North will be integrated with the rest of the network.

VOW will no longer manage any of its transport in-house, with Gist managing every region in the UK except for the South-East of England, which is managed by another, unnamed operator.

The contract follows a deal signed in March last year that saw Gist take on VOW's operation in the South-West.

Martin Gwynn, chief executive of Gist, says: "By extending our relationship, Gist can continue to deliver the best service and value to VOW and their customers."
