A new plant in Irlam, Cheshire, has begun production of AdBlue for GreenChem allowing it to triple its UK output of the additive. UK managing director Chris Haynes says the move is in response to increased demand, which he anticipates will be in the region of 38 million litres per year in 2009. The new facility will have annual production capacity of 30-40 million litres of AdBlue.

However, Haynes warns that AdBlue prices will not decrease, despite the increased availability: "[Increased output] won't affect the price, but will help us to alleviate and combat some of the increased fuel costs [on transport]." European AdBlue prices have risen by 6p-7p/litre since January, as a result of record high prices of urea.  GreenChem will open two more plants in Bristol and Norfolk this year taking its UK capability to four sites.
