Construction industry supplier Hanson has taken delivery of a STAS TPX tipper trailer, which is claimed to increase fuel economy and offer improved payload. David Weeks, Hanson communications manager, says: "We have been looking to reduce our carbon footprint for sometime, or to put it another way, carry more with less.

"This trailer has plenty of potential in achieving that aim and we'll be taking on a further six in the short-term, with more in the long-term depending on results."

The TPX, which features a conical shape, angled rear doors and wheel-arch fins to cut drag, has improved fuel economy by up to 4.8% and adds at least half-a-tonne in load capacity over Hanson's standard trailers, bringing payload to 29.4 tonnes.

It will be used by 20-year Hanson franchisee Derek Pearce, who says: "It has not let me down and delivers everything it claims. It handles very well, has great health and safety features, and my fuel consumption is excellent."
