Motor Transport has successfully launched a new venture - speed dating. This event, held at the Thistle Marble Arch Hotel, London brought together senior executives from leading haulage, parcels and distribution companies, together with major suppliers to the industry for 15 minute meetings. "It worked really well," says Andrew Brown, editor of Motor Transport. "It enables busy executives to meet a number of suppliers in one day and to talk business. It is a networking event and an opportunity to build business relationships."

An industry dinner was held the evening before the event with the partners of those attending. Guest lunchtime speaker the next day was John Nicols, an RAF navigator shot down during the first Gulf War. The suppliers and industry executives were given a timetable so they could meet the representatives of the companies they were interested in and allowed quarter of an hour slots for each. The suppliers taking part included Arvin Meritor, Chevin Fleet Solutions LLC, Schmitz Cargobull UK, Timeplan and Vigo Software.

The event was praised by suppliers and industry executives. Motor Transport is now planning another event and any supplier interested in taking part should contact Jane Cartwright on 0208 652 3659 or email jane.cartwright@rbi.co.uk.
