Surface dressing and engineering firm Hazell & Jefferies has added five Renault Range C tippers to its fleet.
The 8-leggers are fitted with Thompsons steel Loadmaster Lite bodies, which have a longer rear overhang for tipping into hoppers or road surfacers, while the air-operated tailgates, themselves fitted with tar chutes, have been angled forwards to prevent rear axle overloads.
Additional fittings include lightweight Binotto separate ram and tank tipping gears and, for some of the vehicles, automatic couplings for pulling drawbar trailers carrying road planing machines.
The firm is based in Pangbourne, Berkshire, has a recycling facility at Benson in Oxfordshire and will use the tippers for road planing and resurfacing work, recycling, skip hire, delivering concrete and general highways activities. It is said to be considering an additional order of Loadmaster Lite tippers later in 2020.
“Work can change even in a single day, so what we want is one truck that can be equally successful at everything,” said H&J operations manager Neil Tomlinson, “these are rugged, hi-spec tippers built for reliability and durability and a payload of 18,500kg is fine, given their heavy-duty, multi-purpose specification. We’ve dealt with Thompsons for a long time now, and know that their products really do stand up to years of hard work.”
