HIAB announces new range of electric cranes

The load handling solutions specialist HIAB has launched a new range of electric hybrid cranes, as seen here on this Scania crane truck.

Power can be derived from the truck’s engine and an electric power take-off (ePTO). Depending on the model, the ePTO is integrated into the crane base to keep it compact and easier to install. The HIAB wspr is an option on mid range HIAB loader cranes in the HiPro range.

Mattias Berglund, director of global product management, special applications and digital products, loader cranes light and medium at HIAB, said: “A HIAB wspr solution, operated by electric power, is better for people and the planet as it is emission-free and future proofs businesses for stricter regulations. By being emission-free and near silent it also provides the flexibility to operate in low- or no-emission zones, or late at night, thereby increasing business opportunities. This is also providing a healthier working environment for operators and the communities they serve.”

The range is available in three models: standard, light duty and heavy duty. The standard model is capable of one to two days of work in most applications. Light duty is suited to drop off applications and the heavy duty version is ideal for long hours or extended periods between charging. This solution is mounted on the truck chassis whilst the other two are integrated into the crane base. 

When the ePTO is paired with an electric truck, the HIAB wspr solution saves the truck’s battery so maximum range can be achieved. The electric power source is designed to offer the same accuracy as diesel power with improved operational response thanks to the ability to deliver instant torque. If the battery is depleted, the operator can change power sources to use the truck’s engine. 

The HIAB wspr has a two-year warranty as standard and the battery cells are under warranty for five years. The standard model is now available to order worldwide, light-duty and heavy-duty variants will be available for customers to order later this year.
