Wiltshire-based waste management company Hills Waste Solutions has taken delivery of three new Volvo FH-500 tractor units on a five-year contract hire agreement.

The new 6x2 trucks replace the equivalent number of Volvo FM12 6x4s and the company says it is already seeing a reduction in fuel consumption.

Peter Moore, transport operations manager at Hills, says: "The trucks run constantly carrying a full 24-tonne payload and, while it's early days, they are already showing an improvement of around 8% in fuel consumption."

Hills is monitoring the new trucks' performance using Volvo's Dynafleet software, which provides relevant information on fleet scheduling, vehicle location and economy.

The trucks are fitted with I-Shift automated transmissions and Globetrotter cabs. Moore adds: "We spoke to our drivers during the specification process and this cab was one of the things they specifically requested."
