Hireco plans to develop a facility at the logistics park at London Gateway Port offering a range of services for operators.

The contract hire specialist, which opened a chassis leasing operation at the park last month, is in discussions with port managers about turning a 3-acre site into repair and maintenance buildings, an MoT testing bay, parts area, engineering facilities, as well as a tyre replacement and maintenance workshop.

MD James Smith said his company wants to provide port and park users as well as tenants with a complete service. “Warehouse development and lettings close to the port and logistics park are increasing. Our clients won’t have to travel unnecessary miles to keep their assets operational and legal - this will be cost saving and benefit all port users,” he said.

The deep-sea container terminal near Thurrock opened in 2013, while UPS is developing a 35,000m² parcel sorting hub at the park.
