Rental company Hireco has placed its largest order yet for trailers - 1,265 from a selection of manufacturers.

The order is for SDC to provide a mix of 650 curtainsiders and box vans; 265 Dennison flat skeleton trailers; 200 Lawrence David pillarless trailers; 100 Tiger Trailers pillarless curtainsiders; and 50 temperature controlled specialists Gray & Adams refrigerated trailers.

At the moment 65% of Hireco’s fleet of 5,000 trailers is less than three years old and the firm’s policy is to pass its three- to five-year-old trailers onto its dedicated asset sales company, the newly launched Hireco Trailer Sales.

MD at Hireco TL, James Smith (pictured), said ordering large numbers of new trailers each year meant customers benefitted from better pricing and improved uptime.

He added: “Having constant new stock creates a natural bi-product of used assets, and Hireco Trailer Sales can then offer these excellent used assets on favourable finance deals. This means we have better control over the used-equipment prices.”

Hireco wants to increase the size of its fleet to 8,000 within the next five years. BPW will provide axle and suspension systems, including ECO Plus 3 drum brakes, for all of the company’s latest order.

Smith said that by specifying BPW axles, Hireco has benefitted from reduced running costs, improved customer demand and better used values.
