Liverpool-based Home Bargains has decided to add a dozen Mercedes-Benz Axors to its fleet after being impressed by the tractor unit's fuel economy.
According to Alan Beech, transport manager for TJ Morris - the trading name of discount retailer Home Bargains - the company's decision to purchase their first Mercedes trucks was based on a demonstration unit from local dealer Road Range Commercials that returned more than 10mpg.
"We wanted to get a feel for the overall build quality of the truck and gauge the reaction of our drivers to it, and were also keen to see how it performed on fuel," Beech says. "Road Range responded very professionally and were quick to offer us the use of a demonstration unit. The average return of 10.71mpg was very encouraging compared to the rest of our fleet."
The Axor 1840s have been specified with PowerShift automatic transmissions and full air management kits to help reduce fuel consumption even further.
