Ian S Roger Transport orders third Mercedes-Benz Actros from Caledonian Truck and Van

Keith-based Ian S Roger Transport has ordered a third Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor unit from dealer Caledonian Truck and Van.

In the past year the operator took delivery of its first two Actros 2551 trucks, both with flat-floored BigSpace cabs and 12.8-litre straight-six engines producing 510hp, and its third, due for delivery in March 2018, will have a 530hp engine.

All come with extended five-year Mercedes-Benz R&M contracts.

The haulier, which moves livestock across most of Scotland and undertakes bulk distribution of agricultural commodities and general haulage across the UK, runs a fleet of 22 tractor units, as well as three rigids that work with drawbar trailers.

Director Colin Roger said: “We’ve tended historically to favour other brands, mainly because they had good service outlets not too far away. We’re always open to trying something new, though.

"Caledonian Truck and Van have been investing heavily in their dealership at Aberdeen, and have also opened a new branch in Nairn relatively recently.

"Head of truck sales Andrew Rennie has been persistent in trying to win our business so we decided last year to see for ourselves what the Mercedes-Benz product and dealer could do.”

Roger said the firm always specifies high power ratings for its vehicles because of the hilly terrain its drivers have to cope with in the north of Scotland.

“The first Actros has been completely reliable and well on top of the job, so we had no hesitation in returning for more”, he added.
