Felixstowe-based Infinity Container Logistics has replaced 10 older Volvo models with new Volvo FH Aero 6x2 tractor units. Supplied by Matt Kubot, transport solutions executive at Volvo Truck and Bus South & East, they will be put to work on container haulage to and from UK ports covering around 180,000km every year. Since the trucks are expected to cover such distances, fuel efficiency and reliability were key priorities when specifying the vehicles.
Luke Grayling, general manager at Infinity Container Logistics, said: “We were keen to see the mpg potential of the new Aero and the initial impressions are very good. We currently run a mixed 90-plus strong truck fleet of different manufacturers and look forward to seeing the true potential of these new assets. Volvo offers a great overall package. Fuel is obviously hugely important, but downtime is the single biggest threat to our business. The Volvos are very reliable and the back-up we get from the service department is outstanding.”
Infinity opted for the Volvo gold repair and maintenance contract to cover preventive maintenance and repairs. The trucks are equipped with Volvo’s Euro-6e engine which uses turbo compound technology to deliver an extra 300Nm of torque. A 12-speed automated gearbox with I-See predictive cruise control helps to optimise fuel efficiency depending on the scenario. This is combined with the Aero cab which features a more aerodynamic design to offer fuel savings of up to 5% compared with the standard FH cab.
The new FH Aero also features Volvo’s camera monitoring system (CMS) in place of traditional mirrors. The CMS is designed to help aerodynamic performance and safety by giving drivers better visibility by increasing the field of view and auto-panning functionality to follow the trailer when the vehicle is turning. The system works in a variety of different conditions including during heavy rain, dark conditions and direct sunlight.
Infinity specified the truck with Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels. The Globetrotter cab features leather upholstery, a heated and ventilated driver’s seat and rotating passenger seat. Additional highlights to improve driver comfort and welfare include a 33-litre under-bunk fridge/freezer, rear cab storage and single bunk with mattress overlay protector. Grayling said: “The drivers are all die-hard Volvo fans, so we wanted to make sure they liked their new trucks. These FH Aeros definitely tick the box.”
Volvo will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo 2025, which takes place at NAEC Stoneleigh between 24-26 June. It’s free to attend and registrations are now open.
