Investigation launched into death of E Nixon driver

An investigation has been launched after a driver from E Nixon and Son died when another truck operated by the company collided with his cab during a job in Widnes.

David Astley, 56, was at the Tanhouse Lane industrial estate in Widnes at 1.15pm on 13 July, when the incident happened.

Ambulance crews and police attended the scene but were unable to save him.

Shelley Williams, Cheshire Police spokeswoman says: "The incident concerned two HGVs involved in a collision. The driver of one HGV suffered fatal injuries, the other driver was uninjured.

"HM Coroner and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed and a coroner’s file will be prepared."

E Nixon and Son, based in Ellesmere Port, operates bulk tippers and supplies sand, gravel and limestone.
