A Welsh council is using Isuzu Forward chassis with rear loading NTM refuse collection bodies on its new residential recycling service.
Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council's 11 Isuzu N75.190 7.5-tonne rigids were purpose-built to undertake kitchen waste and cardboard kerbside collections - the first of their kind in Wales. All the vehicles have Isuzu's Easyshift transmission and a reduced wheelbase of 2.85m, allowing easier access to the rear of residential properties.
The truck's specification also includes a bio kit, for food waste collection, asymmetric springs and vertical exhausts the NTM 4.5m3 rear-loading recycling bodies.
Blaenau Gwent Council transport manager Neil Hughes says: "Isuzu came out on top because of its willingness to meet our requirements, especially concerning the wheelbase modification. The Isuzu/NTM combination is lighter than the other options we looked at, giving a payload of just over 2 tonne, which enables us to achieve greater efficiency on each vehicle's daily route."
