Isuzu Truck expects 60% of future 7.5-tonne Forward chassis-cab sales to be fitted with its new Euro-6, 3-litre engine because it does not incur the usual weight penalty.
Marketing director Keith Child said the Urban chassis-cab featuring the turbocharged 4-cylinder 3-litre engine is 200kg lighter than the 5.2-litre engine, previously the sole option for 7.5-tonners. Both Euro-6 engines will debut at the CV Show.
The Euro-6 5.2-litre engine is 200kg heavier and 8% more expensive to buy than at Euro-5. By introducing the 3-litre engine, with 150hp and 375Nm torque, for local distribution, operators will be weight-neutral for Euro-6 and it will be available for the same price as the Euro-5 5.2-litre engine versions.
“Everyone else has had to put on weight for Euro-6; the 5.2-litre remains available for operations that involve more arduous, longer and faster average-speed journeys. The Urban is ideal for payload critical, stop-start, local distribution operations,” he said.
Historically, the 3-litre engine was used for 3.5-tonne Grafter and, 5.6- and 6.2-tonne Forward chassis-cabs.
Child added: “Alongside the two Urban 7.5-tonners will be the latest N75.190 4x2 rigid – this will be specified with a tipper body. Completing the four-vehicle line-up on the Isuzu Truck stand will be a Euro-6 version of the 11-tonne GVW Forward F110.210, featuring curtain-sided body.”
- The CV Show runs from 29 April to 1 May at the NEC, Birmingham.
