Iveco has delivered a diesel-electric parallel hybrid Iveco Eurocargo to Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE), which is claimed to reduce fuel consumption by up to 30% compared with a standard diesel vehicle.

The truck is powered by a four-cylinder 16-valve Euro-5 engine producing 160hp, which works in conjunction with a 60hp electric motor that powers the vehicle from standstill until the driver requires extra power.

Energy is recovered via regenerative braking, while a stop/start engine function further aids fuel economy - and Iveco claims the whole package reduces payload by just 200kg.

Also incorporated is an automatic engine brake function when decelerating, in advance of the application of the main brake. The Eurocargo will operate in central Brussels along a 20km route.
