JDR to change name and move away from haulage

JDR Distribution is re-branding to be seen as a one-stop service rather than as "a company that just provides transport". The Tamworth-based firm will be called Moved4u.com, and the first trucks with the new branding will be seen on the road in "six weeks", says managing director Jarrod Baughan. Baughan, who headed a management buy-out of JDR in 2006 tells Motor Transport: "[The JDR name] will disappear off the face of the earth."

"We've just literally changed the concept of the company to become the receiving and delivery point for everything," he says, adding that Moved4U aims to be seen as a service running 24/7. "Companies can plug into that and you pay for what you use." Moved4U's contract for customer DSV will still be its main revenue generator, with the firm carrying £3m a year for the freight forwarder, but Baughan estimates the fleet "can carry another £2m potentially at no extra cost".

Moved4U will incorporate the newly-launched Pallet-Link delivery service. Pallet-Link will be part of Moved4U-Business Delivery under the new branding. A home delivery service - Moved4U-Home Delivery - will be live by Christmas. The business will target the Midlands, where Moved4U runs DSV's Tamworth depot, and the North-west, as DSV has a site in Manchester. Plans are for mini outbases in "dense" areas that loads can be trunked into as the service develops.

"We will deliver anything," Baughan says, but pallet movements and third-party logistics business are high priority. "3PLs can link into us and can drop in anything from one pallet to a full load. It means they can re-align and readjust their own operation," he adds. He says pallet networks could see Moved4U as a competitor, as it doesn't rely on hub charges and is not a volume driven business.
