Norbert Dentressangle (ND) says up to a dozen jobs at its Wrexham site are at risk as it pursues a cost-cutting exercise.
James Beattie, ND general manager, says: “In common with all retailers and their service providers, both Norbert Dentressangle and Shop Direct Group (SDG) – our customer at Wrexham - are operating in a tough economic climate, where controlling costs and reacting to changing conditions are key.
“Due to the volatile market, increased operational efficiencies and fluctuating volumes, we have reviewed our current staffing requirements and put forward a number of options for consideration by the union.
“The number of people affected is likely to be in the region of 12, out of a total workforce of 250 at our Wrexham site.”
He adds: “Whilst this is regrettable, these measures are necessary to ensure that Norbert Dentressangle can continue to provide the most efficient and cost-effective service to our customers and long-term security for employees at our Wrexham site.”
Unite regional officer Peter Hughes says he was originally told 20 people would be affected and then they proposed 12 – all administration and warehouse staff.
“They came to us and said we are looking to save ‘x’ number of pounds and I said 20 was well over the top and they came back and said potentially 12. I have said you make it natural wastage and voluntary redundancies.”
