Barnsley-based Ken Mallinson & Sons Transport has put 10 new Euro-5 Mercedes-Benz Actros tractors onto its fleet as part of its replacement programme.
The new tractor units, supplied by Northside Truck & Van in Doncaster, are 460hp Megaspace units with automatic transmissions, and will be used as part of the firm’s general haulage fleet delivering goods for customers including Asda.
The new Mercedes units will join 20 other Actros tractors that have been added to the fleet throughout 2011.
Mallinson & Sons is also due to take delivery of two 26-tonne DAF CF85 6x2 rigids, fitted with Moffett mounted forklift trucks, in January 2012.
Ian Egan, Mallinson business development manager, says: “We run over 180 trailers and 85 vehicles with a mixed fleet of Mercedes, DAF, Renault and Iveco trucks, but of all the makes, the Mercedes is the least problematic.
"They always return well on fuel, and the servicing for all our trucks will be done in house at our new authorised testing facility. The new Euro-5 trucks will also allow us to continue to run into the London Low Emission Zone next year.”
The company has also rounded off the year with a two-year extension to one of its contracts. Mallinson will transport 20 loads per day of clay pipes and other drainage equipment across the UK for Naylor Industries until the end of 2013, with a number of trailers running in the Naylor Group’s livery.
