Kettering Council rejects truckstop proposals

Kettering Borough Council has rejected plans for a 24-hour truckstop, despite studies claiming more secure parking is needed to combat HGV crime in Northants.

Planning permission for the lorry park, complete with a diesel filling station and amenities, which was submitted by Rothwell Land for a site located off Orton Road, Rothwell, was refused on 21 July.

A spokeswoman for Kettering Council says: "The plans did not have adequate information on environmental impacts."

However, she tells Roadtransport.com that a further breakdown on reasons for the refusal will be available shortly.

The decision made by Kettering Borough Council clashes with a report commissioned by the Highways Agency and Northamptonshire County Council, which concluded that three more lorry parks are needed in the area in order to crack down on freight crime.
