Kingsbridge Auto Repair & Rescue, based in Halwell near Kingsbridge, has recently acquired a new FUSO Canter 7C15D from Intercounty Truck & Van to address the surge in the number of camper vans and mobile homes on the roads of Devon.
The 7.5-tonner, which will be used to help keep holiday traffic moving smoothly, is powered by a Euro-6(e) 3-litre common-rail engine, delivering 150hp and up to 370Nm of torque.
The truck was specified with a factory-built double cab, featuring ample seating for a driver and up to six passengers. Specialist bodybuilder J&J Conversions fitted Super Hawk Underlift equipment, including a spectacle lift with a 2.5-tonne capacity, along with bodywork that incorporates secure lockers for tools and protective clothing.
Kingsbridge Auto Repair & Rescue proprietor Michael Saunders, said: "We cover a busy area of South Devon, including Torquay, the South Hams, and Dartmoor. Especially during the summer, the local roads can become extremely congested with holiday traffic, and an increasing number of these vehicles are vans.
“The 7.5-tonne Canter offers us the capacity to lift campers, large SUVs, heavy electric or hybrid vehicles effortlessly. Moreover, the cab provides sufficient space for all passengers to travel safely. Equipped with a sub-frame, we can recover motorbikes, and the dolly wheels enable us to perform a full lift of a 4x4. It's a bit of a Swiss Army Knife, perfectly suited to our requirements. It's big and powerful enough to get the job done while maintaining relatively compact exterior dimensions for a 7.5-tonner, making it easier to navigate narrow lanes."
Saunders said he had been impressed the service received by Intercounty Truck & Van, and praised sales executive Matteo Mirabile who handled the order.
Established in 2003, Kingsbridge Auto Repair & Rescue also operates two other Canters and a larger recovery truck with a platform body capable of carrying two cars.
