Wine merchant Lanchester Wines has replaced its eight standard trailers with two new specialised 13.7m tri-axle curtainsiders, designed to streamline transport operations between its four warehouses in the North East.
The trailer, built by Tiger Trailers, and the conveyor system from Joloda, includes a moving slipchain floor built into the loading bay that extends into the trailer itself, creating a smooth transition between the trailer and the conveyor system. The Joloda system can load and unload up to 24 pallets of wine in 80 seconds, a process that previously took 40 minutes - a time saving of 97% per load.
The trailer design incorporates the system into the chassis, and there is a bespoke-built underrun bar to protect the Hydraroll mechanism and solid steel reinforcement along the side rave. Lanchester Wines has invested almost £450,000 in the system across its warehouses.
John Mitcheson, logistics manager at Lanchester Wines, said: “The new trailers effortlessly handle around 15 loads a day between the four sites, carrying up to 24 pallets on each trip. The system allows our warehouse team to pick and prepare the stock while our vehicles are on the road, ready for instant loading when the driver returns.”
