Lee Smith, the notable figurehead of used truck dealer Hanbury Riverside, has set up a new company after having formally left the family firm he joined in 1982.

After Hanbury Riverside’s sale to Asset Alliance Group in 2018, Smith had been working as a part time consultant in the business but, assisted by wife Jo, has now decided to take on a new challenge establishing Lee Smith Trading.

In a statement about his new venture Smith said: “With more than forty years’ experience in the truck industry I have always specialised in the sale of premium tractor units and trailers. It is my intention to continue to work with the wealth of contacts I have developed over the years both in trade and retail. I’ve always tried to deliver value and a seamless transaction and that will continue to be my priority.”

Speaking to CM, Smith said that his focus will remain on trucks and trailers for small fleet and retail customers and added: “Rather than having rows of trucks I’ll be placing vehicles direct to the end user. Trucks and trailers aren’t reaching retail because of demand and the way things are at the moment. What I’m doing is sort of a new spin on things.”
