Brentwood-based Legion Scaffolding has taken delivery of three new Mercedes-Benz Actros rigids, writes Claudia Lee. This is the first time the company has bought new trucks, having previously only purchased used vehicles.
The new arrivals are Actros 1824 variants with ClassicSpace S-Cabs, and standard fit MirrorCam technology. The trucks are powered by 7.7-litre, in line 6-cylinder engines, producing 238hp, and are fitted with bespoke platform bodies. Each truck has its own additional centre seat, protective grilles over the headlights and Brigade safety cameras.
Legion Scaffolding’s transport manager Victoria Boyle, said: “We’ve always had Mercedes. My brother [company founder Daniel Boyle] is very particular with how he likes things to be uniform, and the quality of Mercedes is fantastic. It’s a reputation thing”.
Victoria said the firm’s drivers were initially a bit daunted by the new trucks, in particular the lack of mirrors. However she says this soon changed.
“Once they got in them and drove them, each and every one of them said it’s a beautiful lorry to drive,” she said. Referring to MirrorCam, she adds: “They say it’s better than having normal wing mirrors because it really shows you the back end of the vehicle and the left side, the driver’s blind spot”.
Mercedes-Benz will be exhibiting at Road Transport Expo at NAEC Stoneleigh (30 June to 2 July). Register now for FREE.
