Truck-mounted crane hire and lifting specialist Leitch Trans Lift has taken delivery of its first Mercedes - an 8x4 Arocs with crane supplied by dealer Mercedes-Benz Truck and Van (NI).

The operator, based in Strabane, County Tyrone, specified the truck with a StreamSpace cab, a 12.8-litre straight-six engine producing 510hp, and PowerShift automated transmission. It is being inspected and serviced under a six-year Mercedes-Benz R&M contract at the dealer’s Dungannon workshop.

The vehicle includes a colour-coded bumper and roof-mounted light bar and is fitted with a 65 tonne/metre PM 65 SP crane. Its platform body and the low-height tri-axle drawbar trailer it pulls is by Nugent Coachworks, of Dungannon.

Leitch Trans Lift transports pre-cast products, electricity transformers, wind turbines and portable offices, as well as other abnormal loads mainly for utilities companies, including Northern Ireland Electricity Networks. It has five other crane trucks, a combination of rigids and tractor units.

Owner Niall Leitch, who set up the business in 2007, attended a roadshow staged by the dealer before taking delivery of the vehicle. He said: “It was the Arocs cab that really impressed me.The business has been going well so, having always purchased second-hand trucks in the past, I eventually decided to bite the bullet and order my first brand new one.”
