Lewis Tankers has been awarded a new three-year, £5m distribution contract with chemicals manufacturer Stepan UK following a competitive tender.
The Hensall, East Yorkshire-based tanker firm has worked with Stepan for 15 years, collecting and delivering raw materials to its manufacturing site in Stalybridge, Cheshire, before distributing finished goods to the toiletries, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries but the new contract will see changes.
Lewis Tankers MD Stewart MacDonald says: "We put forward some radical ideas for restructuring Stepan’s contract to give it a better service and improved environmental performance."
The company will dedicate a fleet of vehicles, drivers and tanks to the contract, which will all be based at Stepan’s Cheshire site.
Frank Kinder, transport buyer at Stepan UK, adds: "The nature of our products means we place considerable demands on our distribution partner. Lewis Tankers consistently delivers excellent service and is very proactive in putting forward ideas on how to improve the service."
