The location of the pilot that will see Highways Agency (HA) officers given powers to stop HGVs on behalf of the DVSA has been revealed.

The four month pilot will be run from a location near Doxey, Staffordshire on the M6 and started on 1 September.

It sees HA traffic officers handed powers to halt lorries and direct potentially dangerous vehicles back to the DVSA check site for examination.

At the moment, HA officers only have the power to direct traffic, but a small number have come under the DVSA’s accreditation scheme to allow them to stop vehicles.

DVSA has previously stated that “the HA officers will be supplementing, not replacing, existing DVSA resources”.
