Parksafe Group revealed their latest safety device at Road Transport Expo with the show debut of their new Low Bridge Warning Device.
Utilising GPS tracking to monitor the position of the vehicle, Parksafe has developed the hardware and software for the Low Bridge Warning Device to include a database on all the bridges in the UK and Ireland. Each of the entry and exit points in all directions of travel to a low bridge have been recorded and more than 10,000 points of interest mapped.
The system connects to a DIN socket, and can be easily retrofitted into the cab to prove a visual and audible warning alert when approaching a low bridge. In addition, there is a two-way communication button which drivers can use to alert Parksafe that their approach to a low bridge was not recognised and report the result to a remote monitoring point.
“There are a lot of implications with a bridge strike, not only the cost, but also having to sit down with the traffic commissioner. Drivers can lose their licence and companies can go out of business. We’re getting a lot of interest and are just in the final field test studies with some companies. Our plan is to roll it out by the end of the month for the entire market,” said Liam Barber, Parksafe group sales and marketing director.
