Car dealership group Dick Lovett has taken delivery of a pair of Volvo FL 4x2 16-tonners.

The trucks, which are fitted with Belle Coachwork twin deck bodies, will be used by the South-West-based company for transporting cars for its Aston Martin and Ferrari dealerships. Reportedly specified for comfort, driving performance and practicality, they were supplied by Mike Gill, area sales manager at Truck and Bus Wales and West.

Aaron Allnutt, head of business at Dick Lovett, said: “I started my career as an apprentice technician at Volvo Trucks so I’m well aware of the product quality, reliability and performance its trucks deliver. When the time came to refresh our delivery trucks, Volvo was always high on our list and quickly proved to have the best overall package.”

The trucks have been specified with 280hp engines and 6-speed I-Sync transmissions. Inside, drivers benefit from Comfort cabs, with optional fold-up bunks. Creature comforts include heated drivers’ seats and DAB radios, while Alcoa Dura-Bright wheels have been specified. Meanwhile, front and rear air suspension ensure driver comfort, and the best protection for the expensive cargoes.

Allnutt continued: “When you’re dealing with cars of this calibre, every millimetre makes a massive difference. Volvo’s air suspension means we can work with the optimum load angle every time, making loading and unloading customer vehicles a far less stressful process, even when dealing with the largest cars in the Aston Martin and Ferrari ranges.”

The FLs will typically operate from Monday to Friday, collecting customer vehicles for repairs and servicing, as well as occasionally helping to deliver new purchases. They have been supplied on five-year Volvo Gold contracts. In addition to covering preventative maintenance, repairs and wear and tear, it also includes real time monitoring of the truck’s critical components.

“The Volvo team has gone above and beyond for us, even going as far as sourcing bespoke paint colours to match Aston Martin and Ferrari’s official schemes,” added Allnutt. “We simply couldn’t be happier with the help we’ve received from Mike and his colleagues.”

  • Volvo Trucks will be exhibiting at this year’s Road Transport Expo, which takes place at Stoneleigh NAEC on June 28-30. It’s FREE to attend, and registrations are now open.
