Fraikin has won a six-year full-service contract hire agreement with Macfarlane Packaging worth £3.3m to supply and maintain 41 DAFs.
The new trucks - replacements for older models - include 32 18-tonne and six 7.5-tonne LF rigids with Bevan curtain-sided bodies, as well as three CF tractor units. They include load restraint systems to increase payload security between deliveries, plus internal camera systems to monitor driving behaviour.
The trucks will deliver protective packaging to B2B customers across the UK, and cover 60,000km a year. All maintenance and servicing will be scheduled out-of-hours to avoid any disruption to Macfarlane Packaging’s business at peak times and if required, a temporary replacement vehicle will be provided while work is being carried out.
As part of the deal, Fraikin will also provide Driver CPC training to the firm’s drivers.
Tim Hylton, logistics director at Macfarlane Packaging, which has a fleet of 106 commercial vehicles, said: “Having access to a replacement vehicle means we can continue to meet customer demand and still hit our delivery targets, even if we have a vehicle in the workshop.
“Innovations like this bring real benefits - previously, we could lose several hours a day every time we had a breakdown.”
