Mainland Group is on the buying trail

Northampton haulier Mainland Group says it is on the acquisition trail after moving to a bigger depot on Gladstone Close last week.

Mike Bacon, group managing director and major shareholder, says he wants to buy another haulier and another freight forwarder.

Bacon says: "Another reason we moved was that we wanted a freehold so the new site constitutes a £3 million investment for us as well."

FTA calls for scrapping of Dartford Crossing charges

Proposals to increase tolls on the Dartford Crossing are "completely inappropriate" and the government should scrap charges altogether, says the Freight Transport Association Gordon Telling, FTA head of policy in the South-east, made his comments after a 12-week consultation period on the increased charges ended this month. Domestic drivers' hours legislation 'pulled'

The domestic legislation supporting the new driver’s hours directive was today pulled by the government from parliamentary rosters, just hours after a ‘fatal amendment’ was attached by conservative peer Lord Attlee.It is unknown why the legislation has been removed from the list, which scheduled it for discussion in the Lords on the 26 April.
