MAN is the latest European truck manufacturer to open its order books for zero-tailpipe-emission trucks.

The MAN eTruck range, which is now available to order, consists of the long-distance eTGX and the local distribution eTGS.

A modular battery system allows daily ranges from 250km up to 800km with 375kW CCS charging.

Modular battery configuration gives operators the choice of three, four, five or six battery packs to optimise range and payload capacities, which can vary by up to 2.4 tonnes. Depending on which battery setup is specified, the electric motor produces 254kW (333hp), 330kW (449hp) or 400kW (544hp) with corresponding maximum torque of 800Nm, 1,150Nm or 1,250Nm.

MAN has received 600 order inquiries and the first 200 vehicles are expected to arrive with selected customers in 2024. Full scale production is planned to commence at MAN’s Munich plant from 2025.

The eTruck is available in a number of semi trailer and chassis variants with wheelbases from 3,750mm. Its cab sizes match MAN’s diesel lineup with a wide cab for the MAN TGX and a narrower one for the MAN TGS, and there are three roof heights to choose from.

Friedrich Baumann, executive board member for sales and customer solutions at MAN Truck & Bus, said: "In order to achieve the 1.5-degree target of the Paris climate agreement, we as the commercial vehicle industry must do our part and sustainably reduce CO2 emissions. Electric trucks are the key to achieving this. As a commercial vehicle manufacturer, we have repositioned ourselves for this epochal transformation in recent years, making ourselves robust and future-proof to be able to handle the high investments in the new technology.

“With the sale of our new eTrucks, we are now launching into a new era of climate-neutral transport. As early as 2030, every second MAN truck registered in Europe is to be electric. However, for us to achieve this goal, a nationwide charging infrastructure is an absolute prerequisite. We therefore need a significantly accelerated expansion to at least 4,000 megawatt charging points in Germany and 50,000 high-capacity and megawatt charging points in Europe by 2030."
